Mixlab FAQ
Q: How are products selected for a review?
A: Products are chosen by the interest they generate in offering something different and new at the time of release. This may include a sample library with a distinct array of instruments, or an innovative product that boasts a different approach to working.
Q: Are reviewers paid to review a company's product?
A: No. Often preview copies or NFR samples may be provided for review purposes, but apart from that, a reviewer is not compensated. Some reviews are written from the perspective of having a personally purchased copy.
Q: As a developer, can I have mixlab review my product?
A: Yes, fill out the contact form to get in touch, and mixlab will consider reviewing your product.
Q: How do I know that the reviews are accurate or objective?
A: Reviews are never completely objective, which is why each review is open to user comments on the blog. Any erroneous information that might surface in a review will be corrected. Often, reviews are vetted to the product manufacturers and/or developers for fact-checking, though opinions expressed - in either the published review or blog comments - are reserved by mixlab, to maintain objectivity.

Q: What is the relationship between mixlab (Greg Paxton) and the developers of a product? Is this a promotion to sell products?
A: Greg maintains a number of relations with various developers, and from time to time is contacted by developers interested in a review. Greg Paxton and mixlab do not represent any company, or exist to promote a specific product, but function as an independent review source. The nature of reviews is to help promote useful products by providing information to would-be buyers.
Q: What is your policy on negative, thumbs down reviews?
A: If, in the course of working with a product, it is determined that the product does not meet a certain standard, an amended "mini" review (with ratings) may be substituted. The focus here is on choosing products that are ultimately useful to musicians, rather than featuring products that have little or no merit.
Q: I have a product I am interested in, can mixlab write a review?
A: Send the name of the product, and mixlab will see what can be arranged.
Q: I would like to review a product, can mixlab publish my review?
A: Yes, provided you are not an industry professional associated with the product, or related products, and you have the necessary writing skills. Mixlab reviews are primarily for and by "regular" musicians.
